Yom HaShoah-Remembering those who perished in the Holocaust

This song was sang at a Holocaust Commemoration Ceremony I attended this Sunday evening and I was familiar with this song from youtube:

Oyfn Pripetchik (On The Hearth)

They also sang Hatikvah and  Tehilim # 121, 125, 126

This quote was included on the flyer:

"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." -Anne Frank

It was a moving event....and I'm working on writing a larger essay which is a compilation of more Holocaust memorial events that I've been attending.

  1. Thanks for this post, and for your blog.

In recent years I often think of this one on Yom Ha-Shoah. [Lyrics with translation here.]

  2. Off-topic, a bit ...

I noticed elsewhere on your blog that you read a lot of history. Have you seen this article from Haaretz: Nothing to do but pray? [In the Hebrew edition.] I found the article interesting through its relation to the way Yom Ha-Shoah underpins Israel's civil religion.
